Just Starting: Purchasing a Home
My best friend is looking for his first home and he asked me the other day, “How do I begin buying a home?” Though I’m just 24, I’ve owned one home and have rented another, so I have seen the benefits of both. But in regards to buying home, here are some good things to start with.
When you are just starting out in the home buying process, first make sure your finances and personal preferences are set. A home is a very big decision for almost everyone and requires a chunk of change to move forward.
Having a good down payment ready, knowing your comfortable spending range, and knowing how long you will be in a certain place are great beginning places for anyone buying a home. Here are some more suggestions from Dave Ramsey.
Next, remember this phrase, “look with your heart, but buy with your brain.” By all means, you want to live in a house that makes you happy (or as close to happy as possible). But when it comes to the final purchasing phase, make sure your brain speaks up and offers a fair overview of what you are getting with your money.
Then start looking! Use a mixture of realtor sites and a trusted realtor to find the ideal house for you. Don’t rush it either. I know houses go fast in this market. But if one gets away, just believe that God has a different plan for you and your home.
Good luck in your search and happy hunting!
